LIQUID CAST 2

JESMONITE, STEEL / CHANDELIER / 2024
BY ARTHUR HAINZ

With molds often constructed out of rigid materials, variation in the casting outcome is impossible, outside of minor deflections. Even when made from pliable, soft, or otherwise dynamic materials, without a fluidity that matches that of the material cast, the casting substance will always be restricted to the limits of its partner.

Jesmonite is a gypsum based casting material known best for its incredible durability and abilities of material mimicry. By casting it into a liquid, the distinction between positive and negative, mold and material, disappear. If both display near identical fluid properties, each can behave, move and express themselves, before the Jesmonite sets according to its own material nature. Through this process, Liquid Cast displays the potential of Jesmonite’s own aesthetic identity.
