ARTHUR HAINZ is a sculptural furniture designer based in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Cracking, melting, wearing, and tearing, he makes furniture with unrecognizable surfaces that invite closer inspection. Weaving together personal nostalgia with this need to push materials to their limits, his pieces retell memories through the language of tactility.


Graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven with a particular interest in furniture design, HAINZ focusses on subverting expectations of materials to produce unconventional aesthetics and outcomes. By first delving into traditional ways of handling materials, he understands and is able to manipulate their properties to the fullest, exposing sides to each previously neglected.


The basis of this desire originates from a need to communicate. Having lived a specific mix of cultural experiences few can relate to, paying respects to formative parts of his life is of critical importance to his work. DEEP BLUE is the apex of this philosophy, a research into the diversity of properties rope has and an homage to HAINZ’s time sailing the coast of Hong Kong.
